Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, affecting over 90% of the people with diabetes. Ginseng, Huang Qi, Cinnamon, Cumin, Velvet Antler and Fenugreek can be used to treat type 2 diabetes.
The most symptom of type 2 diabetes is that the patient drinks a lot of water but also pees a lot. So the patient still feels thirsty, still has dehydration (water loss) problem. When a person with type 2 diabetes becomes severely dehydrated and is not able to drink enough fluids to make up for the fluid losses, they may develop the life-threatening complication.
While there is no cure for type 2 diabetes in today’s medical science, traditional medicine may provide an alternative cure for treating the disease. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the disease is named “Xiao Ke Zheng”, which means “a disease of peeing a lot and drinking a lot”. According to traditional Chinese medical theory, this disease is likely caused by the weak “kidney”. “Kidney” In traditional Chinese medical theory is not just referring to the physical organs of the kidneys. Rather it refers to a network, in which very specific energy flows and functions related to kidneys. The concept “kidney” includes genital organs, adrenal gland, kidney, prostate and bladder. They all are located in the lower abdomen. According to TCM, “kidney” is like a slow cooker (or low-heat steamer), when the “kidney” network is weak, not warm enough, the water in the lower body cannot be vaporized (evaporated) and cannot be sent back to the upper body. So no matter how much water is taken in, the patient still feels thirsty and suffers from dehydration, because the water is lost through the urine – too much urine.
So the treatment for this disease in traditional Chinese medicine is either to use the medicines that have lifting properties (Ginseng, Huang Qi) to pump the water from the lower body to the upper body, or use the medicines that have warming properties (Cinnamon, Cumin ,Velvet Antler & Fenugreek) to warm the lower body, to vaporize the water in the lower body and send it back to the upper body. Once the organs (lungs and stomach) in upper body have enough water supplied from the lower body, the patient will not need to drink much of water. The symptom of “peeing a lot and drinking a lot” will be relieved.
Ginseng and Huang Qi are lifting herbs. They lead energy and fluid flow from lower body to upper body.
Cinnamon, Cumin, Velvet Antler and Fenugreek have warming properties. They warm lower body, therefore vaporize the water in the lower body and send it back to the upper body.
Please note:
1. Not every warming herbs have the effects to warm lower body. Some spicy herbs, such as chili pepper and ginger, mainly warm upper body. So don’t use the wrong one, otherwise it may cause more thirsty.
2. To avoid ginseng’s warming and drying side-effects from affecting the upper body, you may need to add some moisturizing herbs to balance it, or use American ginseng, instead of Korean ginseng.
