Radish (Daikon) can be used for treating indigestion, nausea, vomiting, dysentery and constipation.

Radish (Raphanus sativus, Daikon, Mooli, Luo Bu) is an edible root vegetable. Radishes can be categorized into a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Daikon refers to a wide variety of winter radishes from Asia. Daikon is a white, giant radish which is typically grown to several pounds. In India, it is called “Mooli”, and in China, it is called “Luo Bu” or “White Luo Bu”.

When you have indigestion problem, discomfort or burning in your upper abdomen, nausea, and a bloated or full feeling, or you have chronic dysentery, or constipation, you can eat radish to relieve the symptoms. Here are how to eat roots or leaves of radish for the treatment:

1. Chop roots or leaves of radish and extract the juice, consume it with warm water (or add brown sugar).

2. Use radish roots or leaves to make a salad.

3. Stir-fried with pork (or beef), or use it to make a soup.

Please note, while radish is a digestive aid, it is not suitable for those who have weak stomach and digestive system. Because according to the traditional food and medicine guidelines, radish has “downward” properties, which means that it has effects to push food down the digestive tract, and it may also, if consumed for a long period, weaken the digestive functions of the body.
