In Ayurvedic medicine, belleric myrobalan (Bibhitaki) is used to nourish the lungs, throat and voice. It has effects for respiratory ailments, especially due to kapha, like cough, cold, sore throat, hoarseness of voice and asthma.
Mix fruit pulp with long pepper, salt and honey, it can cure cough. There is a popular remedy for cold and cough: fry the fruit first and then covered with wheat flour and then roasted.
You can also use the herb to make a decoction to treat sore throat and voice hoarseness.
Chewing the baked fruit of belleric myrobalan can relieve the respiratory ailments. It works well as a mucolytic to dissolve thick mucus and relieve respiratory difficulties.
