Sutherlandia (Cancer bush, Sutherlandia frutescens) has been used for hundreds of years in southern Africa for treating cold, flu, fever, chickenpox, diarrhea, gastritis, liver problems, asthma, TB and bronchitis.
Sutherlandia has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. Traditionally, a decoction of leaves and flowers is used internally to treat colds, flus, and bring down fevers, relieve asthma, TB and bronchitis, cure diarrhea, stomach and liver problems.
Although scientists still have not known exactly how the anti-inflammatory process works in sutherlandia, but it does show antibacterial and antioxidative effects. In studies, various extracts of sutherlandia leaves had significant effects on S. aureus, E. faecalis, E. coli and P. aeruginosa.
In southern Africa, in cases of acute diseases such as colds, flu, bronchitis or gastritis, sutherlandia is recommended to be taken for the duration of the disease.
Scientists warn that, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use sutherlandia under any circumstances. Consult you doctor before using this remedy.
