Cat’s claw (Uncaria Tomentosa) is used to treat many intestinal ailments, such as Crohn’s disease, gastric ulcers and tumors, chronic diarrhea, parasites, colitis, gastritis, diverticulitis and leaky bowel syndrome.

The indigenous peoples of South and Central America have used uncaria tomentosa for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. It has ability to cleanse the gastrointestinal tract, treat diarrhea, and aid in removing toxins from the body. As a general herbal tonic, Cat’s claw has effects in improving conditions of chronic fatigue, allergies, immune deficiency and other conditions associated with defects in intestinal permeability (leaky bowel syndrome) and toxin overload.

Dr. Brent Davis used Cat’s claw on 150 patients between 1988 and 1992. According to his report, “Uncaria tomentosa has the ability to break through severe intestinal derangements that no other available products can touch.” He believed that this plant has ability to detoxify the intestinal tract and to treat a variety of stomach and bowel disorders, including to cleanse the entire intestinal tract and help patients suffering from many different stomach and bowel disorders including leaky bowel syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, fistulas, gastritis, ulcers, parasites and intestinal flora imbalance. By cleansing the intestinal walls, cat’s claw enables the body to better absorb nutrients, thus helping to correct nutritional imbalances created by digestive blockages. Many doctors believe that cat’s claw may have a profound ability to get rid of deep-seated infection lodged in the bowel.

The inner bark and root of Cat’s claw are used in the traditional medicine. Today Cat’s claw is sold in the form of capsules, tea and extract in the supplement health food market.

Please note, the side effects of Cat’s claw may include headaches, dizziness, and vomiting. Consult your doctor before using it.
