Gandharva Haritaki is a classic Ayurvedic medicine that is used to treat intestinal disorders caused by vata, such as chronic constipation, dyspepsia, hemorrhoids, bleeding piles, anal fissure and fistula.
According to Ayurveda, vata is wind dosha, which is dry and cold. When vata is too strong in the body, it can cause dryness of the intestine, and the related symptoms: constipation, hemorrhoids, anal fissure, etc.
To treat these disorders, Ayurveda uses laxative herbs. Gandharva Haritaki contains two laxative herbs: Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and Eranda (castor oil). It softens stools and eases the problem of constipation and piles by inducing regular bowel movements and restoring normal bowel function. Gandharva Haritaki also contains two warming herbs: pippali and sunthi. These two herbs are used to expel coldness in the intestine and relieve the pain. We can see that, this formula is a combination of the laxative and warming herbs. The laxative herbs relieve dryness, and warming herbs expel coldness. Both are used to treat the disease caused by vata (dry and cold) dosha.
