Asoka (Ashoka, Saraca Asoca, Saraka indica) is an Indian herb that is used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat the gynaecological problems, such as menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, leucorrhoea, oligomenorrhoea, uterine prolapse, habitual abortion and miscarriages, etc.
According to Ayurvedic texts, asoka is bitter, astringent, pungent and has a cold potency. It alleviates vata and kapha doshas. It possesses light and dry attributes. It is often used as an uterine tonic to treat women’s disorders. It has effects to arrest excessive menstrual bleeding, reinforce the uterine musculature, hence is benevolent in prolapse or inflammatory conditions of the uterus, and help treat habitual abortion and miscarriages.
In modern studies, saraca asoca is reported to contain glycoside, flavanoids, tannins and saponins. It is used as spasmogenic, oxytocic, uterotonic, anti-bacterial, anti-implantation, anti-tumour, anti-progestational, anti-estrogenic activity against menorrhagia and anti-cancer.
Traditionally, asoka is used to make a decoction for treating gynaecological disorders.

Recipe 1:
– Dried asoka bark 5 grams
– Water 1 cup
– Boil and simmer it water for 10-15 minutes
– Drink it
– Twice a day
Recipe 2:
– Asoka bark powder 5 grams
– Milk 1 cup
– Heat milk to warm
– Consume the powder with the milk
– Twice a day
Recipe 3:
– Dried asoka bark 5 grams
– Ashwagandha (withania somnifera) 5 grams
– Water 2 cups
– Boil and simmer it water for 10-15 minutes
– Drink it
– Twice a day
