Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids reduce risk of heart disease. Omega-3 fatty acids can be used for heart disease and problems that contribute to heart and cardiovascular disease.

According to the American Heart Association reports, “Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the heart of healthy people and those at high risk of or who have cardiovascular disease.” On September 8, 2004, FDA (the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) gave “qualified health claim” status to EPA and DHA omega?3 fatty acids, stating that “supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA [omega?3] fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.”

Clinical evidence suggests that EPA and DHA (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, the two omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil) help reduce risk factors for heart disease, including high cholesterol and high blood pressure. DHA and EPA has been proven to work for heart and the very large network of arteries and veins that make up our cardiovascular system. They help lower “bad” LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure, while at the same time increasing “good” HDL cholesterol.

According to a major clinical study in 11,324 patients. Treatment 1 gram per day of Omega?3 fatty acids reduced the occurrence of death, cardiovascular death and sudden cardiac death by 20%, 30% and 45% respectively. In the March 2007 edition of the journal Atherosclerosis, 81 Japanese men with unhealthy blood sugar levels were randomly assigned to receive 1800 mg daily of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) with the other half being a control group. Those given the EPA had a statistically significant decrease in the thickness of the carotid arteries along with improvement in blood flow. When blood is too sticky, it promotes clot formation, and this can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. Omega-3 fatty acids can decrease the thickness of blood, and reduce the risk of heart problems.

Today Omega-3 Fatty Acids have been widely accepted. You can find Omega-3 fish oil supplements in a grocery, drugstore or health supplement store.
