Du Zhong (Eucommia, 杜仲) can be used to prevent miscarriage, habitual abortion and treat infertility. Du Zhong (Eucommia) is a wonderful herb for women. Pregnant women who are underlying weakness and suffer from threatened miscarriage or habitual abortion (recurrent miscarriage) or infertility can use eucommia to warm and calm the fetus and improve the conditions.
Miscarriage is the spontaneous loss of pregnancy before the fetus reaches viability. It is reported that, approximately 20 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriage. If you suffer from miscarriage, you should visit your doctor and find out the cause.
Du Zhong has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than thousand years. It is often used to treat women’s disorders, such as restless fetus, unstable pregnancy, bleeding or miscarriage. It can calm a restless fetus during pregnancy, warm the reproductive organs and treat infertility.
Why Du Zhong (Eucommia) has these effects? According to traditional Chinese medical theory, those women’s problems of threatened miscarriage, habitual abortion and infertility are caused by coldness and weakness in kidney and liver. In traditional Chinese medical theory, “kidney” indicates a network related to kidneys, including genital organs, adrenal gland, kidney, prostate and bladder. They all are located in the lower abdomen. When a woman has a warm lower abdomen and the fetus has sufficient blood supply during the pregnancy, miscarriage is unlikely to happen. A cold and weak reproductive system is a cause of miscarriage and infertility.
Du Zhong is a warming, downwarding tonic, which leads warming Qi (life force) downward to the lower body, tonifies liver and kidney network. It stimulates and strengthens the organs in the lower body, warms the “bottom” of the body. Du zhong has effects to warm, strengthen and calm the fetus, help to prevent miscarriage, habitual abortion and treat infertility.
Please note, Du zhong should not be used for patients with hyperactive fire and yin (blood, fluid) deficiency.
