Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium) is used in traditional Chinese medicine for detoxification, bruises, rheumatism, tooth pain, lump, carbuncles, snakebites and various inflammatory diseases.
According to traditional Chinese medicine texts, yarrow has pungent and bitter tastes, and has effects of blood-moving, wind-expelling, pain relief and detoxification.
In a clinical trial, injections made from yarrow decoction have been used to treat various inflammatory diseases, such as Acute surgical infection, acute appendicitis, acute enteritis, acute mastitis, acute tonsillitis, acute lymphadenitis, deep abscesses, carbuncles, gynecological inflammatory disease, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic otitis media, eczema, etc. According to the report, after treatment of 7-10 days, in a total of 188 cases, 137 patients (72.8%) were cured, 36 patients (19.2%) shown improvement, and ineffective in 16 patients (8%). According to the clinical observations, this product has good anti-bacterial anti-inflammatory, antipyretic analgesic effects, especially has significant effects for acute enteritis, acute appendicitis, acute tonsillitis and acute mastitis, but less effective against inflammation of the respiratory system.
Yarrow in form of tinctures is used externally to treat muscles, bones injuries, rheumatism, hemostasis swelling and pains.
A decoction made from leaves of yarrow 3-5 grams can be used to treat menstrual pain and carbuncles.
To relieve tooth pain, bruises, rheumatism, lump and carbuncles, apply fresh leaves to the affected tooth.
According to the medicine texts, to treat snakebites, extract juice from fresh yarrow 60-120 grams, or make a decoction from dried yarrow 30-60 grams, drink half, twice a day. And you can also use a handful of fresh yarrow to make a poultice, apply to the affected area, change poultices once or twice a day.
To treat bruises, bones injuries and rheumatism, you can also use yarrow tincture.
Here is a recipe of yarrow tincture:
– Dried yarrow 150 grams
– Grain alcohol, vodka or rum, 750 ml
– Put the herb in a large jar
– Pour alcohol over the herb to saturate it
– Securely fasten the lid to the jar
– Store the jar in a dark place for at least one month
– Shake the jar every a few days
You can apply a few drops of the tincture to the affected area to relieve the pains. And you can also drink about 10 ml, twice a day to promote healing of bruises, bones injuries and rheumatism.
