Looking for home remedies to treat bronchitis, wet cough and runny nose? There are many spices and foods that you can use for the treatment, such as onion, chili pepper, ginger, turmeric, tulsi, peppermint, lemon and orange peel.
1. Onion
– 1 teaspoon of onion juice
– 1 teaspoon of honey
– Mix them and drink it, 3 times a day
2. Chili Pepper
– 1/2 teaspoon of chili pepper powder
– 1 cup of milk (or 1 cup of water with 1 tablespoon of sugar)
– Boil and simmer them for 3-5 minutes
– Drink it, 2 times a day
3. Ginger
– 1 teaspoon of ginger juice (or 1/2 teaspoon of ginger powder)
– 1 teaspoon of honey
– Mix them and drink it, twice a day
4. Turmeric
– 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
– 1 teaspoon of ghee (butter)
– 1 cup of milk
– Boil them for 1 minute
– Drink it, twice a day
5. Tulsi
– 1 handful of tulsi leaves
– 2 teaspoons of sugar
– Boil tulsi leaves in a cup of water for 3-5 minutes, add sugar
– Drink it, twice a day
6. Orange peel
– Boil and simmer orange peels (from 2 oranges) in 1 cup of water for 10 minutes
– Add 2 teaspoon of sugar
– Drink it, twice a day
7. Lemon
– Lemon juice from 1 lemon
– 2 teaspoons of honey
– 1/2 cup of water
– Mix them and drink it, twice a day
8. Peppermint
– 1 teaspoon of peppermint juice
– 1 teaspoon of sugar
– Mix them and drink it, three times a day
You can modify the above remedies according to what you have in your kitchen. Honey, sugar, milk and ghee (butter) have moisturizing, cooling and smoothing properties. They are used to balance and avoid the side-effects (too hot or too dry). So they can be replaced each other. You may choose one or combine two of the following options:
– 1 cup milk
– 1 teaspoon ghee (butter)
– 2 teaspoon sugar
– 2 teaspoon honey
The dosage also can be adjusted according to the patient’s symptoms and age.
