Beebalm (Bee balm, Monarda) can be used to treat skin infections, wounds, mouth ulcers, caries, gingivitis and mosquito bites.
As a member of the Mint family, Beebalm is cooling, the taste is bitter, due to the thymol content, like a mix of spearmint and peppermint with oregano.
Bee balm (Monarda fistulosa, Monarda didyma) has a long history of use in native American remedies. The herb is used in poultices for treating skin infections and minor wounds.
Bee balm is an antiseptic and antibacterial. It contains antiseptic Thymol, the primary active ingredient in modern commercial mouthwash formulas. That may explain why native Americans use the herb to make a tea to treat mouth ulcers, throat infections, dental caries and gingivitis.
