Scientific studies have found that a deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids may cause depression, anxiety and brain / mood disorders, such as mood swings, bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, Alzheimer’s disease, ADHD, ADD, or schizophrenia. Therefore, omega-3 fish oil can be beneficial in improvement of the conditions and symptoms of brain health.

To keep human brain function properly and healthy, it requires a tremendous amount of omega 3 fatty acids. Scientists believe that Omega-3 fatty acids play a critical role in the development and function of the brain and the central nervous system. Fish oil from oily fish like salmon and sardines with high content of fatty acids, is brain food. The fatty acids are believed to help the brain work properly. Giving fish oil supplement to children and teenagers with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) can improve their conduct. Taking fish oil also can help those children reducing other disruptive behaviour – defying teachers, disobeying parents, and fighting, stealing or other anti-social activities.

If you or you loved ones have depression or other mood disorder problems, you may need omega 3 fish oil supplements. You can find the supplements in a nutrition store or herbal remedy store.

Please note: if you have a chronic blood disorder, you should consult your doctor before taking the supplements because omega-3s inhibit blood clotting. Also, you should avoid taking fish oil supplements two weeks before and one week after when you have a surgery.
