Strawberries are effective to prevent and help treat many diseases, such as atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, angina, stroke, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
Strawberries for Atherosclerosis, Hyperlipidemia, Heart Diseases & Cardiovascular Health:
Strawberries affect blood vessels, platelets and lipoproteins positively, and help reduce the risk of coronary heart diseases. Strawberries contain high fiber, folate, no fats and high anti oxidants such as vitamin-C and the phytochemicals (Flavonoids). They effectively reduce cholesterol, thus prevent and help treat atherosclerosis and heart diseases.
According to a report published on Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association, eating three or more servings of blueberries and strawberries per week may help women reduce their risk of a heart attack by as much as one-third. According to the study, the berries contain high levels of naturally occurring compounds called dietary flavonoids. A specific sub-class of flavonoids, called anthocyanins, may help dilate arteries, counter the buildup of plaque and provide other cardiovascular benefits.
Strawberries for Stroke, Brain Disorders and Aging:
Strawberries contain vitamin-C, the phytochemicals and iodine, which are very helpful for proper functioning of the brain and nervous system and reduce the risk of stroke and brain disorders. The antioxidant properties of strawberries are also beneficial in reversing the course of neuronal and behavioural aging. Due to the positive effects against anti-neurodegenerative diseases, strawberries are helpful in slowing aging process and reduce the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
Strawberries for High Blood Pressure:
Strawberries are effective in treating and preventing high blood pressure. Strawberries are very good in potassium and magnesium content, both of which are very effective in lowering high blood pressure caused by sodium. About eight strawberries contain 240 mg of potassium and 1.44 mg of sodium, an excellent proportion to maintain a healthy blood pressure and prevent strokes.
